When I started with SeneGence I basically had no idea what I was doing when it came to makeup. Like, none. My goal was to cover up my terrible acne and look as pretty as possible with scars and deep cystic pustules. Fun, huh?

After introducing our Oily to Acne skin care line, I’m over that (thank goodness) and I finally have gotten to learn how to do makeup for FUN. And one of the first things I picked up was that I was actually applying my makeup ALL WRONG.

By using makeup brushes instead of your fingers, you can save product, reduce acne, get a better/more airbrushed finish and even get better coverage with the same amount of product. I even have a second set of brushes I use to apply my skin care . . . game changer! But the kinds of brushes you use for each task are really important. Here’s what I’ve found works best for me:

  1. Foundation: thick/dense brush with a flat top
  2. Blush: thick/dense brush with a rounded top
  3. Contour/highlight: thick/dense brush with a tapered top
  4. Concealer: small/dense brush with a flat top
  5. Eye Shadow: fluffy brushes
  6. Eye Liner & Eye Brows: thin angled brushes

My favorite brush set right is a Shany Brush Set from Amazon for $21.99. It has a great case and every kind of brush you could possibly need. I’ve been using them for awhile and they’ve held up to cleaning with minimal shedding. They are also synthetic hair, which works best with SeneGence products.

My second favorite and cheaper set, which I also use for giveaways and gifts with purchase is also on Amazon and made by BS Mall.

Lastly, for your makeup brushes to work best and keep your skin free of unnecessary bacteria (acne producers!), you need to wash your brushes weekly. We have an awesome brush cleaner that you can buy here. If you are using our products, you really need to use our brush cleaner. All day, waterproof, oil-free cosmetics don’t respond how the stuff from the store does, so get the cleaner to match the products! $20 and will last a REALLY long time. All you need is 1 tbsp of cleaner for 1 cup of warm water.
